Snappy Sleepover Set...

Wow! I finally finished the girlies Sleepover quilts. I am so excited!! They have actually been finished for a while. But, getting the girls to go out in this hideous heat and take a few photos......well it  took a while. It has been hot in the hood people. 117 today. Ouch, can you feel the burn? Getting outside and getting wrapped up in a quilt. HAHAHAHAHA I am surprised I got any shots at all.

What Makes it Snappy.......

You have to squint and look really hard on this one...
I used KAM plastic snaps all around the bottom and sides to
make "the bag". They are white also.
The next shot is an extreme close-up. Sad and blurry it is.....
Can you see the snaps?

Girlies exiting fast....... Because it's HOT!!

A Few Last Thoughts......

This was a pretty easy project. I still have a couple issues to work out. I would like to come up with a better way to keep the roll together while traveling. And a bag to carry sleepover stuff in........
I think I made a good call on using plastic snaps. They are the greatest thing since quilting!!! They are fun to press on. Way more fun than a zipper!!!!! Fun to find different ways to snap a quilt on ya....You can even go "Snuggie" style just by
unsnapping a few snaps and wearing it upside down.

This is most excellent fun for the lil's.

I had so much fun making them. I am doing one more for the very envious 11 year old sister.
She is requesting red and aqua ( love this child!!!). We ordered her fabric on Monday:)
My 28 year old son asked for one also. He also loved the idea of snapping up "snuggie" style and watching football. It would be fun to sew one up to represent his beloved Cowboys.....

Sooooooo....... Tutorial to come!!!
In the mean time here a a couple photos of this project's process .

We are So Fortunate..........

Well, SuperGirl is at it again!!
Last night I made lettuce wraps for dinner. She was excited ! She loves anything asian. So, she channeled some of here zest into making these amazing Fortune Cookies !!!
Her Family and others (the few stray teens who are always popping) loved them . It was really a fun way to end the meal and laugh. With a house full of kids bored with summer already. Nights like these are very special.
She said they were very easy. Just a little time consuming. She found a cool recipe and video on youtube. "That's how the youngin's do it these days." And off she went.
I took pics..............

SuperGirl is Amazing!!!!

Summer Slow Down........

Summer around here is about slowing down. It gets so crazy throughout the school year with everyones activities, sports and everything else demanding. Summer gives me a chance to bring all my little birds back to the nest and remind them the most important thing in life is Love&Family!!!

We craft, sew and read together, A lot of movies and popcorn, baking and oodles of cooking together. Anything to keep the close to me .....I only have them each for 18 years. Soooooo not enough :)

This week being 115 degrees outside. Indoor fun it was. Summer forts are a big right of passage around here. So we decided to build a little plat tent. I think it turned out cute. And the girlies LOVE it. They have read, slept, played dolls and watched old movies in it.  Big points for MOM!!! Which are payed in smiles and hugs. My favorite form of payment.

These are the inspiration...

From Cakies......

From a google search......

 And what we built....

By day...................

I used dowels top and bottom to give it a ruched look.

Lights and doors.........

At  Night..........

It went together pretty fast.  4-2x1's, 3 dowels all 6 foot. And 3 king flat sheets.
I made velcro tabs to attach the doors and the back. That by far took the longest.
Still all in all......maybe 3 hours to build and add cover.  Most of that was waiting for stain to dry. Then about 2 hours of sewing. Only because I wanted doors and a back. Not needed really.

So project one done of ......Slowing down summer.
I wonder what's next.

Sneak Peek.......
I am working on a new project.............finally!! I have had the worst time getting into the swing of things since the move. Two years ago!! I just don't have the best creative space here. But in the spirit of "Bloom where you are planted" I am feeling the bug again. Sometimes it is best just to do it...right??

These little beauties are going into a sleepover set for my girly. I think little girls and polka dots are a match made in Heaven!!!

Smoothie Week!!!

Hello Friends!!

I have a great tip for y'all this week!!  Did you know a mason jar fits on your blender ?!?!?!?!
OMGoodness, this changes my world.

Since this is testing week for my kiddos .......I really want them to have a fun nutritious breakfast!! (oh, cuz I know their teachers will ask!! ) And I have the "I am super lazy in the morning disease"!!
So here is what I did!!
I gathered up my mason jars, lids and caps.
Grabbed some fruits, frozen yogurt and sherbet.
Snagged a quart of greek yogurt for protein ( Chobani is my fave)

 And away I went...

Filled jars with fresh bananas and strawberries,

Added a scoop of frozen yogurt and a couple spoons of    Chobani vanilla in half the jars,

Capped those and put in freezer.
BTW, I used 16 oz. for the teens and 8 oz for the littles.

In the other half of the jars I used sherbet. Added a few frozen blueberries to some. Gotta mix it up a bit.

And there you have it....A freezer full of goodness!!!!

When your ready to drink....... pull jar out of freezer, let thaw a little ..while getting dressed ect. or pop in micro for a bit..... add milk of juice.
Screw blade assembly on jar and blend away until smooth.

And Voila'!!!!    Super yummy, sorta healthy smoothie....

Oh the possibilities!!!!

Have a fantastic day,
Keithena

P.S. This is great for the athletic types. You can add protein powder with the liquid. Or, for the dieters more fruit and just the greek yogurt. Have fun!!

Buffalo Joe's

I love quick , easy, last minute meals. Sloppy Joe's..... the easiest.
With this huge family and our crazy schedules..... We need quick and easy a lot!! I made these amazing sloppy joe's last night. Thought y'all might wanna give them a try. If you like buffalo chicken wings. You will LOVE these. Best part ...under 30 minutes to complete. Faster than drive through. And I dare say.......yummier!!

Here's what I used.... But let's face it I cook for 4 teenagers, 3 kids, Myself and the hubs. Oh, and any other teen that pops in!!! And funny how they all know when it's dinner time.......

Buffalo Sloppy Joe's

3 lbs.  ground chicken breast
1 32 oz. once can of crushed tomatoes
1 cup or so of chicken broth
2 T. butter
Franks Red Hot Buffalo Sauce
Asst. cheeses
celery
Buns (sour dough is best if you can find them)

1. Fry ground chicken

2. Add tomatoes, butter  and broth (enough broth that it looks very sloppy). Then add Frank's. We used a 1/2 bottle .We like it hot. You can always add more or less to taste.
3. Cook until thickened on medium. About 15 to 20 minutes.
4.Build amazing Joe. Using thinly sliced celery and blue cheese crumbles.

5. Eat!! It is that easy!!!

Notes: I served the joe's with assorted cheeses and veggies with ranch. The Hubs likes pepper jack cheese and a ranch drizzle. My daughter prefers swiss and mayo. All super yummy!!!

I hope you Love these!!! We sure do!!!!

Update: Okay so........ I was a teensy weensy hungry this afternoon. Opened up the fridge and saw the leftover buffalo joe meat from last night and a head of lettuce. Oh Man!!!! Best lettuce wrap ever!!!
Warmed the meat, rolled in lettuce leaf.
No Carb lunch for me!!!!
